I am so excited and wanted to share with you all!! This weekend I made some more positive progress on the physical dimension of my WellNurseLife! Yesterday, I participated in the Chase’N Chocolate 5K event which supports our local Women’s Community, which works to educate the community and bring awareness to domestic violence issues, while assisting victims and survivors. This was my first Chase’N Chocolate run and it was fantastic!
This year’s event had even more meaning. On March 22nd, 2017, a domestic violence situation extended beyond the home, into our community, ending with the shooting of 4 community members, all of which perished. This year, the event certainly brought many members of the community together as we continue to heal and work to always remember these victims.
I hadn’t planned on running the 5k, and expected to do a combination of walking and jogging. But…when the race started, I was in a pack of runners, so started out jogging (I was thinking….”darn it, I should have been in the back of the pack!) and once I made it through that first mile and settled into my pace I ran the entire 5K!! Woot woot!! There certainly were times that the little voice in my head was saying “maybe you should stop”. (I was experiencing symptoms of my mast cell disease). As soon as I would hear that little voice telling me to stop, I would then hear a voice that said “you can do this, think of these poor families that have been through this tragedy, they have to forge ahead each day amidst their pain, so you can do this!”. Thinking of these victims and families certainly helped me to cross that finish line!
As you continue to improve the physical dimension of your own WellNurseLife, don’t be afraid to push that little voice in your head that is telling you “I can’t”, to the side. Focus on someone or something that gives you inspiration and let that be the motivator that pushes you over that finish line! If I can run a 5k so can you!!!
Wishing You Well,
